Mies never stepped foot inside the finished house because of disputes with Dr. Edith Farnsworth over its finishings. Today however, it is furnished with a Barcelona sofa and pair of chairs as he would have intended.
The Farnsworth House famously flooded in 1996 and again in 2008 causing severe damage to the vulnerable house. The Historic Preservation society is currently evaluating a plan to mitigate further flood damage.
I followed Mike Hall during his restoration of a 1960s VW Beetle at Austin Vee Dub and documented his work in progress.
Some old, some new, tools are something a mechanic collects over time, carefully maintaining and aquiring the perfect set.
Hall grew up riding bicycles and that passion is still present in his life. He is a professional off-road bike racer and spends his time getting his hands dirty outside the shop as well.
On the left Hall trims down the side of an ill fitting gas tank for the vintage car. He uses his experience and tools to quickly solve problems that arise.
Hall is a master mechanic with an eye for detail. This is what makes his restoration work at Austin VeeDub so impressive.
